For nearly 50 years, Ingo Maurer has been exploring the many facets of light. Working with new technologies and unusual materials, pushing aesthetics boundaries, Maurer has always produced his own work in Munich, Germany. Bulb (1966), a table lamp consisting of a bulb within a bulb was his very first piece. Still in production to this day, Bulb celebrates Maurer ́s love for the light bulb as a beautiful object – a marriage of poetry and industry. Since then, his designs, whether one-off commissions or serial luminaires from his collection, have been shown all over the world in many exhibitions including the 2007 solo show “Provoking Magic: lighting of Ingo Maurer” at the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum, in New York. Maurer was born in 1932 on the Island of Reichenau in Lake Constance, Germany and trained in his youth as a typographer. From those experiences and more, he has continued to draw inspiration. His team, his company of over 60 people is based in Munich. With his team he develops his inspirations creating iconic serial lamps like the winged bulb Lucellino (1992) and special light objects. He feels deeply connected to the city of New York where he opened his first Sore in 1999. Both a showcase and a place to connect with the inspirations to be found in the US, it is an intimate and unique location curated by Ingo Maurer and his team.

The Interior Define mission began with this question. We believe your sofa is the most important piece in your home. It sits at the heart of your home and daily life. That’s why we developed a process to bring you high-quality, custom pieces at accessible prices: a customization process that ensures you’re in charge, but not on your own.
